Orthodontic Care During the Holidays
Of course, the holidays are a time for a little guilt-free indulgence, but patients with braces and clear aligners should take note:
-
Holiday sweets such as chewy lollies and candy canes can wreak havoc on the brackets and wires used in braces. Braces wears should avoid hard or sticky foods to ensure their braces aren’t put at risk of breaking. Whilst clear aligner attachments are not quite as vulnerable as braces, care should still be taken to avoid breakages which could delay treatment.
-
One of the great benefits of clear aligners is that they can be taken out for a maximum of 2 hours per day to allow for eating and drinking. However, be wary to replace them once lunch is finished.
-
Keep your aligner protective case close-by: wrapping aligners in napkins or serviettes can result in accidental loss or breakage.
-
Keep up good dental hygiene over the holidays to avoid causing cavities, especially if you have braces where food can easily be caught under wires and near brackets. Keep up your regular dentist check-up and cleaning appointments.
Holiday Hours
