Orthodontics Cost
in Australia

At Fine Orthodontics, we understand that the cost of orthodontic treatment is an important consideration for many of our patients. First established over 30 years ago, Fine Orthodontics, led by specialist orthodontist Dr. Martin Fine, is dedicated to providing affordable, flexible, and personalised orthodontic care to help you achieve the smile you've always wanted. Let's explore the costs involved and the options available to you.

Types of Orthodontic Treatments Offered by Fine Orthodontics

Fine Orthodontics offers a range of orthodontic treatments, including clear aligners, braces, and other custom appliances including expanders, bite jumpers, holding arches and orthodontic plates.

Here's a closer look at each of these treatments and their associated costs:

Clear aligners (e.g., Invisalign®)

Clear aligners like Invisalign® are a popular treatment option for patients seeking discreet and comfortable orthodontic treatment. Clear aligners are custom-made to fit over your teeth, and gradually shift your teeth into their correct position. They are virtually invisible, and can be removed for eating, brushing, and flossing.

The cost of clear aligners at Fine Orthodontics varies from around $5,000 to $10,000, depending on the severity of your case, the treatment goals, and the length of your treatment. Whilst this estimate is intended to provide some idea of a typical treatment fee, there is a possibility your fee will fall outside this range depending on your needs and desires.

An important point of difference at Fine Orthodontics is that we have an orthodontist who enjoys the challenge of mastering new technologies, as well as an on-site lab. These things together have culminated in Dr Fine producing his own unique system of clear aligners. This means that in many cases our own system FineLine can be offered alongside other clear aligner systems such as Invisalign®. If FineLine can be used in your case, there can be a substantial reduction in treatment costs. As well as a reduction in overall cost, the use of FineLine eliminates the need for a large portion of the fee to be paid upfront. A lower deposit helps make orthodontic treatment more affordable for many patients.

So, despite the exceptional level of specialised attention you'll receive at Fine Orthodontics, we can still offer substantial savings. We have achieved this without compromising any aspect of quality by investing in our own clear aligner printing system. By utilising top-quality materials, state-of-the-art technology, and advanced techniques, we no longer need to rely on external companies to manufacture aligners based on Dr. Fine's plan.

No matter which clear aligner system is right for you, whether that be Invisalign®, FineLine or another system, at Fine Orthodontics you are assured that your treatment will be meticulously planned, managed, and supervised by an experienced orthodontist committed to delivering a first-class experience.

Braces

Metal Braces.jpg

Metal braces

Metal braces are the most common type of fixed braces and consist of metal brackets and wires that are attached to your teeth. These braces apply gentle pressure to your teeth to shift them into their proper position over time.

The typical cost of metal braces at Fine Orthodontics is around $8,500 to $10,000 depending on the severity of your case, the treatment goals, and the length of your treatment. Despite this typical cost guide, in some circumstances treatment cost will be much less - or possibly greater - depending on your unique needs.

Damon Braces.jpg

Ceramic (clear) braces

Ceramic braces are similar to metal braces, but they use clear or tooth-coloured brackets, making them less noticeable than traditional metal braces.

Fine Orthodontics offers clear braces for the upper teeth. Clear braces are slightly more costly than metal braces. As with other treatments mentioned so far, the total cost of braces varies depending on factors such as the complexity of your case, treatment objectives, and duration of treatment. It's important to note that individual circumstances can result in significantly lower or higher treatment costs, depending on your specific requirements.

Surgical options

In some cases, orthodontic treatment may require surgical intervention, such as jaw surgery to correct misaligned jaws or to uncover impacted teeth. For these treatments, Dr Fine will collaborate with other specialists, such as Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons  (for surgery involving the mouth, jaw and face) or Periodontists (gum specialists). Surgical treatments are generally carried out in conjunction with braces, aligners or other custom appliances as required.

The cost of surgical options at Fine Orthodontics varies depending on the complexity of the case, the treatment goals, and the type of procedure required. Additional fees will be payable to other members of your specialist team. At your free* initial orthodontic consultation, we will be able to give you a quote for the orthodontics, as well as an idea of what to expect for the surgery.

Before proceeding with a treatment plan that involves surgery, you will be referred to a surgeon for an initial consultation. During this surgical consultation appointment, you will learn about any additional costs that apply, as well as the potential risks and benefits associated with the surgical treatment you are considering.

Other custom orthodontic appliances

Retainer or URA Appliance.jpg

In addition to braces and clear aligners, there are several other custom orthodontic appliances available for treatment. These appliances include retainers, expanders, bite jumpers (CBJ appliances), holding arches, and special appliances designed to address habits like tongue-thrusting or thumb-sucking. At Fine Orthodontics, we have an on-site lab where we can design and fabricate custom appliances to make your treatment as effective and efficient as possible. Sometimes, these appliances may be used instead of braces or clear aligners, while other times they are used in conjunction with them to achieve the best results.

It is difficult to provide a useful estimate of the cost of these types of custom appliances at Fine Orthodontics, mostly because these appliances have a huge range of applications. In the vast majority of cases, the cost for these types of appliances is around $1,000 to $7,000, depending on the type of appliance required. In some cases, custom appliances will be included in a course of comprehensive orthodontic treatment at no further charge. This is highly dependent on what the appliance is intended to achieve, as well as how much additional clinic time and appointments are needed as a result of the appliance being included in the plan.

In some cases, use of an additional appliance makes the braces or clear aligner treatment much faster and easier, so that there is an overall saving of clinic time. These are the cases where sometimes, the appliance cost may be included in the overall plan at no additional cost. Conversely, there are cases where the use of an additional appliance may extend the overall treatment duration. However, despite the extended timeframe, the appliance is recommended due to its ability to deliver a superior outcome compared to treatment with braces or clear aligners alone. At your consultation appointment, the benefits of any additional custom appliance will be explained in detail, for you to make your own informed decision.

Factors Affecting Orthodontics Cost
at Fine Orthodontics

When it comes to orthodontic treatment, the cost can vary greatly depending on several factors. Fine Orthodontics understands that everyone's situation is unique and is committed to providing affordable and flexible payment options. Here are some factors that may affect the cost of your orthodontic treatment at Fine Orthodontics:

Severity of the case

The complexity of your orthodontic case can influence the cost of treatment. Cases that require more time and specialised techniques to achieve the desired outcome may require a greater investment.

Case complexity is not always obvious unless you are a trained specialist - sometimes teeth that look quite crooked, or seem to have lots of ‘gaps’,  might be easier to correct than addressing certain bite issues, or managing cases which require coordination between different specialists to plan and undertake.

Many orthodontic problems become worse over time, so visiting your orthodontist as soon as you suspect an issue is highly recommended.

As some bite issues can be traumatic and cause enamel wear, tooth chipping and other issues, visiting the orthodontist sooner can also lead to overall savings in the long run, with less restoration and subsequent maintenance required with your general dentist or other dental specialists.

Choice of treatment type

The type of treatment you choose can also impact the cost. Choosing clear braces, or clear aligners like Invisalign® may be more expensive than traditional metal braces, for example. This is very case-specific however, as some types of problems are more easily addressed by one mode or another for various reasons, and this will be reflected in the respective quotes.

Once we have reviewed your case, Fine Orthodontics will provide you with multiple options and quotes specific to you. You can then consider cost as well as lifestyle and other factors when choosing between different treatment types.

Treatment goals

Despite case severity, in some cases you may make an informed decision to address only some of your orthodontic issues. For some patients, Fine Orthodontics can offer ‘tiered treatment options’ to select from, allowing you to make an informed choice to address only some of your orthodontic issues. This can make treatment more affordable for some patients.

Treatment duration

The length of your orthodontic treatment can also affect the cost. This factor is closely related to case severity, although not always. Longer treatment times may require more appointments and adjustments, which can increase the overall cost.

In cases where patient compliance is not ideal, costs may also rise. For instance, if retainers are lost or broken, additional visits will be required for new ones to be made. While appliance loss and breakage can occur occasionally, and such issues are an unavoidable part of life, repeated appliance damage and loss, resulting from poor patient compliance, may noticeably impact the treatment time and overall treatment fee.

On-site technology and expertise versus need to outsource

At Fine Orthodontics we are passionate about orthodontics and associated technology. We operate our own on-site lab, which allows greater efficiency and effectiveness, giving us less need to involve external labs.

FineLine

Dr Fine has developed his own line of clear aligners, known as FineLine. With a reduced reliance on external providers, Fine Orthodontics has streamlined many of our processes and systems, and tailored them to meet the needs of our practice and patients. In our effort to provide superior levels of service and treatment, we have increased overall efficiency while optimising overall quality.

We are proud to be able to pass savings along to our patients. As FineLine is made in our own on-site lab, FineLine can offer substantial savings, including a much lower deposit than other treatment options.

Additional procedures or appliances required

Some cases may require additional procedures or appliances, such as surgery or multiple orthodontic appliances, which may impact your overall costs.

Whilst we can’t provide accurate estimates without seeing you, at Fine Orthodontics we understand that the cost of orthodontic treatment can be a concern for many patients, or at least an important factor in deciding their next steps. For this reason, we offer a free* no obligation assessment at which we can provide treatment plan and fee options specific to your unique needs and desires.

In addition, we offer flexible payment plans to help make treatment more affordable for everyone. You may also be entitled to a rebate if you have private health cover. At your assessment appointment we will provide all the relevant item numbers for you to provide your health fund. Our team is committed to providing high-quality orthodontic care at a price that works for you.

Technology and Efficiency
at Fine Orthodontics

At Fine Orthodontics, we pride ourselves on staying at the forefront of technological advances in orthodontic treatment. We use cutting-edge technology to ensure our patients receive the most efficient and effective treatment possible. Our state-of-the-art digital systems include 3D x-rays, 3D digital scans, and software systems that help us to accurately diagnose and treat orthodontic issues. This technology allows us to create highly customised treatment plans for each patient, resulting in better outcomes and shorter treatment times.

The benefits of our technology go beyond just better treatment outcomes. It also helps us to reduce costs for our patients by eliminating the need for multiple appointments and adjustments. Plus, in many cases (depending on the treatment type selected) we can show patients a virtual representation of how their teeth will look after treatment, giving them an indication of the end result before treatment even begins.

You might assume that investing in the best technologies would lead to higher treatment costs. However, the opposite is true. By employing advanced technology, we not only provide our patients with better service but also enhance our efficiency and productivity. This benefits both the clinic and patients by allowing for faster treatment with fewer and shorter appointments, all while achieving better results than ever before.

Special Offers and Promotions

At Fine Orthodontics, we want to make orthodontic treatment as accessible and affordable as possible for our patients. That's why we offer a range of special offers and promotions to help make it easier for you to find the right type of orthodontic treatment to suit your requirements.

Currently, we are offering free* orthodontic assessments for new patients, which includes a consultation with our specialist orthodontist. Depending on your needs, this may also include photographs, a clinical examination, and a digital 3D photographic scan of your teeth. This allows us to accurately understand your concerns, take detailed notes regarding your current bite and smile, analyse your case, and discuss the best way to achieve your orthodontic goals. This includes providing an indication of likely treatment options and cost. Please note, should you decide to proceed further and move forward with one of the treatment options presented, an x-ray is usually required to confirm the treatment plan. Your x-ray can be arranged on-site for a fee of $180. This can usually be done the same day if desired.

In addition, if you are not yet available to visit our office, we also offer remote assessments. Whilst these are not quite as accurate as a clinical assessment (and a follow up in-person assessment will still be required to proceed further), remote assessments are still useful for those who would like to receive preliminary information which is a little more specific than what can otherwise be found on this website. Simply upload photos of your teeth and receive a preliminary treatment plan from our specialist orthodontist, all from the comfort of your own home.

In addition to providing free* or low cost assessments or consultations, we also periodically offer special promotions and discounts on other treatments, so be sure to check our website and social media channels regularly to stay updated.
