To address the crowding and bicuspid crossbites, we used Invisalign® treatment clear aligner treatment to expand the upper dental arch and straighten crooked upper and lower teeth.

Along with straightening the lower arch crowding (correction of crooked teeth), we used Invisalign clear aligner treatment to correct the ‘reserve smile arc’ in the upper arch.

This patient had crooked teeth, and an ‘open bite’ where the teeth don’t close at the front, even when biting teeth together at the back.
The top teeth were positioned ‘up high’, partially hidden under the upper lip.
Invisalign® treatment was used to straighten upper and lower teeth, and correct the bite.

Invisalign® treatment primarily focuses on correcting misaligned teeth and bite issues. The results are straighter teeth, improved symmetry, a harmonised bite, and in some cases, a more balanced facial profile.
While the fundamental principles of orthodontics apply to both, adult facial growth and dental development has generally ceased, which might influence treatment strategies. However, adult Invisalign® before and after photos often show dramatic transformations similar to those of younger patients. In addition, adult patients can sometimes consider combining their orthodontic treatment with orthognathic (jaw) surgery, where indicated.
Invisalign® can lead to subtle changes in overall facial aesthetics. Corrections in alignment and bite can modify the appearance and position of lips, and can impact the appearance of chin prominence, and cheek contours. This is more common where there is protrusion (teeth in one or both jaws sticking out) or retruded (teeth in one or both jaws leaning or crowded in).

While Invisalign® can influence overall facial aesthetics, the changes are usually subtle. Sometimes, in order to achieve greater facial change, Invisalign® treatment can be combined with other appliances or adjunctive treatments. For adult patients this could include jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery). If you’re hoping that Invisalign® will change your face shape, be sure to let your orthodontist know. That way, your orthodontist can review your case, and provide you with realistic expectations and treatment options. Your orthodontist may be able to show you some before and after photos that are similar to your case to help you to understand what sort of changes may be possible for you.
Just be yourself! Your after Invisalign® photo shoot is a great time to compare your before and after Invisalign® photos, and reflect on your overall Invisalign® journey.
